From Blurred Vision to Bright Future: A Keratoconus Success Story

Meet our patient:

A 20-year-old student from Yavatmal. In 2014, a bright young student aspiring to become a Chartered Accountant walked into our OPD with a troubling concern—his vision was deteriorating rapidly, and his glasses couldn’t correct his sight. This vision loss was severely affecting his studies, and his prescription seemed to change every few months.

When our expert cornea specialist examined him, he lost 40% of his vision. A detailed Corneal Topography confirmed what was suspected: Keratoconus. This progressive condition weakens and irregularly shapes the cornea, leading to severe vision loss. Affecting one in every 1000 young adults, keratoconus often leads to difficulty in daily tasks and, in extreme cases, permanent blindness.

The news was challenging, but we had a plan.

A Pathbreaking Solution

Given the progressive nature of keratoconus and his young age, our doctors recommended the groundbreaking Collagen Cross-Linking (CXL) procedure. At the time, this was a relatively new and pathbreaking surgery designed to halt the progression of keratoconus by strengthening the cornea.
The procedure was successful, and we fitted our patient with specially customized contact lenses. The result? His vision improved to almost 100% (6/6 visual acuity), which seemed impossible before the treatment.

The Result: Vision Fully Restored

Following more than one year of continuous monitoring and follow-up, the outcome was exceptional. The patient achieved a final visual acuity of 6/6 a complete restoration of vision. From near blindness to perfect sight, both vision and quality of life were fully regained.
